Giants Suspend CB Dominique Rodgers Cromartie, No Plans To Trade Or Release Him

Update:

Dan Graziano reports that the situation involving Giants CB

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie started last Friday when he walked out of the team’s “recovery day” session.

Then, during Sunday’s loss to the Chargers, Rodgers-Cromartie slammed his helmet down on the sideline, left the team while the game was in progress and went to the locker room with what teammates and coaches understood was the intent to leave the stadium.

On Tuesday, a meeting was scheduled between Rodgers-Cromartie and HC Ben McAdoo in which McAdoo told Rodgers-Cromartie that he would be inactive for this Sunday’s game against the Broncos and fined for walking out of Friday’s recovery session.

Graziano’s source said that Rodgers-Cromartie showed up for meetings Wednesday but left the defensive team meeting while it was ongoing, cleaned out his locker and left the team facility, which led to the decision to suspend him.

As of now, the Giants have no plans to release or trade Rodgers-Cromartie and instead plan to welcome him back with a clean slate once he has served his punishment. Although, Graziano says that Rodgers-Cromartie’s suspension has yet to be determined and could be more than one game.

Giants HC

Ben McAdoo announced Wednesday that they are suspending CB

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie after he came in and later decided to leave the team, per Jordan Raanan.

  • Art Stapleton reports that Rodgers-Cromartie expressed his displeasure with the coaching staff regarding his existing role.
  • Ian Rapoport adds that Rodgers-Cromartie had words with McAdoo after being pulled in Sunday’s game it continued today. According to Rapoport, it got heated between McAdoo and Rodgers-Cromartie, who has been upset playing in the slot.

According to Mike Garafolo, the Giants demoted Eil Apple for Rodgers-Cromartie last weekend, which led to Apple saying he was treated like the scapegoat.

Janoris Jenkins also left the field before Sunday’s game was over, so there are clearly issues brewing with the team’s defense.

This is hardly the kind of news they need, given that New York is already off to an 0-5 start to the season and just lost three receivers for the season including

Odell Beckham Jr, Brandon Marshall, and

Dwayne Harris so this is hardly the kind of news they need.

Rodgers-Cromartie, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2008. He’s currently in the fourth year of his five-year, $35 million contract that included $13.98 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $6.48 million for the 2017 season.

In 2017, Rodgers-Cromartie has appeared in five games and recorded 26 tackles, a half sack, and no interceptions or pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 30 cornerback out of 109 qualifying players.
